“Good Times, Bad Times / I know I’ve had my share …”
Yes, to quote Led Zeppelin it’s been a wild roller coaster these past 12 months but the peaks were really Good Times! I got to meet and jam with some great artists, and played a lot of cool shows. The guys in 5si have been really welcoming and the October gigs rocked. They say I’ve done an awesome job of stepping into the role. Fans said we rocked with great stage presence and I signed a few autographs
one woman asked for my guitar pick- first time for everything!

I awoke today with a realization: it’s my “Vista Birthday!” Yes, today 4 years ago, I ordered my first business cards from VistaPrint.com. As I reflect on my *modest* triumphs in the Music Industry, I know they were all thanks to networking – made possible by VistaPrint’s affordable cards, which I used to begin building my image.
THE most recognizable name in online printing, VistaPrint.com is also a great status tool; when I exchange cards with someone and theirs has VistaPrint on back, I know immediately where they are in their business growth. Especially in Music, where “image” sells. Why? Because, soon as I had enough money, I ordered nicer cards with custom artwork and backside printing. I can only assume that my collegues do the same, unless they are cheap in which case I’ve still learned a valuable detail – all thanks to VP’s “free” business cards (you pay $3-5 shipping and handling for up to 500 cards, which have VistaPrint.com on their reverse).
So THANKS! for all the fond memories of desinging my first biz card, passing it around for the first time, and receiving others’ over the years. I’ll probably never use VP again, but for my first 12 months as an entreprenuer, it was a GREAT way to loose my biz-card-virginity! ![]()

“Onward, through the night…” -some of my favorite Yes lyrics. Even though that song speaks of something entirely different than death (I think) they were my first thought when preparing to write this post. I was truly saddened to read in Performer Magazine that the famous guitarist had died on March 2. Thank God I was lucky enough to see him perform. My friends have described his tone as “totally 80s” but I see him on a different plane; his melodic and harmonic harmonies, intense solos, and overcoming physical limitations (blindness) were a constant inspiration to me over the years. My favorite Montreax Jazz Fest. video is of Healey. His big break was appearing in Roadhouse (with Patrick Swayze). And yes, I own a copy of the film. And yes, I bought it years ago because Jeff is in it. My favorite Healey song? “Angel Eyes.” You can watch a video of it here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=tRov2XscQJc
Jeff truly was a world-class guitarist, all-around musician and entertainer. His stage presence was like that of James Brown or Jim Morrison – raw, uncensored power. May his music continue to inspire new generations!
