Warren Co. Rocks

Friday, May 21st, 2010

As we rolled down Main St., the warmly familiar buildings came into view: I saw the shops, court house, and then the park. To my pleasant suprise, a large stage had been constructed (last year we used a ground-level platform). I had truly enjoyed meeting the residents of Warrenton, GA last year and looked forward to this concert. Cindy and her daughter greeted us at the stage. Later, as we began to play, I appreciated the elevated perspective. Cool breezes, and I could see over the border bushes across the downtown scape. It was very relaxing and definitely facilitated our extended jams.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Clear blue skies for miles around with white clouds sprinkled on top. You can see a photo here, on the official Warren County website (thanks Mike for posting!)

Cool concerts

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

As y’all know, I’m a professional musician. So when I get to play big shows, or reach certain levels of professionalism, it is particularly exciting to me! Well this week I’m playing three shows with Kevin Kinney and Drivin’ N’ Cryin’. It’s all a part of the band Connor Christian & Southern Gothic, of which I’ve been a member since September ‘08.
We did our first show with Kevin in January, where he sat-in with us on stage. He broke a string and ended up playing one of my guitars on three songs. It was cool to actually play with him on stage. This Friday @ Cowboys in Kennesaw, GA, we’ll be opening up for the entire band Drivin’N’Cryin’ – they’ll play after us at one of the most famous venues in GA. Pretty cool eh?

Southeast Performer Mag v.2

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Dear Friends, I’m pleased to bring you my AMAZING review by Southeast Performer Magazine! Thank you for all the support I’ve received over the years! ~Nick
——————————————————————
“Nick Edelstein – Live In 2007
Recorded by Robb Holmes, Cliff Anderson, and by Nick Edelstein
Mixed by Nick Edelstein at NESS Records. Mastered by Ben Cornthwaite at Lakefront Studios in Conyers, GA.

Athens music native Nick Edelstein takes the listeners on a terrific ride through the world of blues with an online release of live recordings held in venues throughout the Southeast.
A record chock-full of strong blues material including classic blues standards such as “Crossroads,” “Stormy Monday” and “Hound Dog,” the artist’s handywork on lead guitar is impeccably precise, as each live song spills with fervent balance, delivering punchy lead solos galore.
Edelstein also shows his intimate and personal side with soft-spoken material, on endearing works such as originals, “Sign From Above,” flawlessly recorded at Athens radio station, WUGA-FM, and “Ripple,” recorded at Pucketts Farm in Charlotte, NC.
Although much of the live recordings are very murky and muddy, what is most important is Edelstein’s craftsmanship on blues guitar.
“Crossroads” churns the album from the start, launching the album’s fiery energy and tenacity from the get-go. Certainly a highlight displaying his most superior guitar work falls in the intro and throughout “Red House,” a dazzling, mesmerizing statement of guitar-driven blues-rock.
Much of the record has some breathtaking guitar work, and his voice suits the blues man, with performances of liquid gold, compared to the swift speed of a dozen horses at Churchill Downs, as notes flourish like a roaring freight train.
Though he has much room to grow and improve, his potential is boundless. He even throws in some great riffs and chops that speak of his influences, possibly reminiscing Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Santana’s artistry comes to fruition in a frighteningly well-spoken version of “Europa.”
It’s good to hear much of Edelstein’s background through short bits of interviews on WUGA-FM, as he dwells into his work, and his further studies in Comparative Literature. (NESS Records)  – Shawn M. Haney, http://www.performermag.com”

WUGA videos uploaded (finally!)

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Dear friends and family, apologies for it taking so many months to upload these videos.  The truth is we were waiting on having the editing done.  Not that there was THAT much to edit – on the contrary we did very little editing (basically just added a splash page and did fade-outs for endings).  No, we just were so busy that we didn’t begin the editing process until last week.  So here they are – all four songs which I performed live on the air on October 12, 2007.  Enjoy   ~NE     click to watch on YouTube

First Live Radio Experience

Friday, October 19th, 2007

I had hoped to write this upon returning to Decatur – while the excitement was still fresh – but unfortunately that did not happen.  Other obligations got in the way, as they always do.  My good fortune to always be occupied is also my misfortune.  So, you read correctly!  I was live on WUGA 91.7 / 97.9 FM on Friday, October 12, 2007!!!  The first time a song from my debut album aired was back in 2005 (wow!), and I have gotten a lot of airplay for my music since then, however this was the FIRST time I ever appeared live on a station!  WUGA is the official NPR station for Athens-Clarke County (GA, USA).  It’s known as “The Classic” station because of its NPR affiliation, however WUGA plays a lot of non-Classical music including weekly Jazz and Blues programs.  I appeared on a show called It’s Friday which is a weekly program airing on Fridays from 4:00-5:00 PM.  This was not only a great opportunity, but also a great time slot, as 4-5 PM is the start of rush hour!  I can’t imagine how many new fans I made as eager listeners tuned in on their way home from work and school (Athens is home to the University of Georgia, hence the station’s call letters).

When I arrived I was promptly greeted by the program’s host, Robb, who is a great guy and very pleasant company.  He made me feel right at home in the recording room.  It was a room too, not a booth – quite larger than I had expected with 20-foot ceilings and cement block walls.  There were dozens of lighting cans hanging from the rafters.  I later learned that the room was a television studio before the radio station took over (which also explained the ’green screen’ cloth backdrops and scattered ficus trees).  Heather Purdin, who now lives in Boone, NC but used to live in Athens, went on before me.  Well, actually I played an instrumental improvisation on my guitar during Robb’s opening remarks and then Heather proceeded with her interview.  She performed three songs very beautifully.  After the 30-minute mark it was my turn, and I felt very comfortable.  I encourage all of you who missed the live broadcast to listen to the audio feed posted here.  Comment!  I thrive on fan feedback and criticism.  Oh, I have video too but have not yet figured out how to convert it to a managable file size.  Looking forward to your comments   ~NE
