Updated “Lyrics” page!

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

For the past 6-8 months, we’ve been playing a lot of new songs that have yet to be recorded. This is a common way to test a song on an audience before bringing it to the studio. After the success of last night and Thursday night’s shows, I’ve made my final modifications to these songs’ lyrics and structure, and am ready to post the “final version!” Check out the “Lyrics” page for the newest *official* additions to the songbook :p

Lyric Well Is Dry Today

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Wrote yet another freakin’ instrumental yesterday. The melodies are tight, catchy, and it really rocks. And it was totally inspired so I know it’s good (you know when it comes pouring out from magic-land, with little or no effort?). My problem? Lack of words. Plenty to say, nothing to write. Hmmm. Thinking of opening this up to public submissions. Other artists have contests, I should be able to try this for a spell. Let’s see what you got! Anyone interested let me know (comment here). I’ll continue to plug away . . .

Celeb Birthday: Bob Dylan

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Born in 1941, his original last name was Zimmerman.  I think … Sort of rehashes the argument of whether or not I should change my last name for “marquee appeal.”  Obviously I voted “nay” but many folks I know, including one of my cousins, voted in favor of a fake last name (or completely new fake name).  Anyway back to our celeb.  My favorite Dylan song is “Desolation Row.”  I had the honor of seeing him perform it once, at Music Midtown here in Atlanta.  I could not understand a single word, but sang along faithfully while surrounding concertgoers watched [me] in complete confusion.  The lyrics are packed with allegory.  I won’t bore you with my analysis, but suffice to say I think it’s one of the best compositions ever – lyrically.  Musically, well … I would yield to any number of his radio-friendly hits.  If you are in the market for your first Dylan album, I would recommend Highway 61 Revisited.    ~NE
